Get to Know Your Photographer
I always feel like I need to start these things with “hey ya’ll!” even though I don’t think I’ve ever actually said that phrase in real life. But it’s so warm & friendly I can’t resist, so… hey ya’ll, I’m Kalli! Little bits & pieces of me can be found throughout here but I wanted to compile some of the most important ones so that you know exactly who you're talking to before you even send that first email.
Who am I?:
I’m a wedding & senior portrait photographer based out of a small town in Southern Indiana. I love traveling & have been to 18 states & 8 countries thus far. Colorado & Costa Rica are next on my list!
I met my boyfriend, Michael, in our high school French class & we’ve been together for nearly a decade. We bought our first home in August, which is actually the home that I grew up in during my middle school years. It’s super cozy & usually smells like a mixture of the 10 different candles I have burning at all times. One of our favorite things to do together is take day trips to French Lick, Owensboro or Evansville just to wander around & get a change of scenery. We also have the sweetest pets, a pup named Ellie & a cat named Diana. Michael is completely obsessed with golf and, while I’ve never played a round, he bought me clubs for Christmas last year so I guess I’m going to take a hint & give it a try this year. Wish me luck!
It’s going to be really hard to sum me up in a blog post but if I had to name a few more of my favorite things they would be: cookie dough ice cream, the beach, dancing, a good cappuccino, meditation, hiking, mojitos, Lady Gaga, random acts of kindness, Midwest Café muffins & let’s be honest, Netflix.
Where it all started:
I’ve had all sorts of jobs from being a waitress to a nanny to a social media manager, before becoming a full-time photographer. When I was young I always wanted to be veterinarian because I loved animals but as I got older I realized that didn’t mean I would get to play with puppies all day. In college, I started off as a social work major & while that will always have a place in my heart, I knew it wasn’t something that I could personally handle as a career. Then I found photography & have been in love with it for the past 6 years.

I started out as a photojournalist & most of my initial work was documentary. As time went on, I was pretty much a jack of all trades, photographing everything I possibly could, not really sure where I wanted to go with it. About halfway through my college career, I landed a job at a portrait studio & realized that I loved getting to interact with clients to help them create images that they and their families would love. So, from there I then persuaded all of my friends to let me photograph them so I could get some practice & see if this was something I would want to pursue as a career and, well, I think we all know how that turned out. ;)
I now spend every week meeting a new couple or senior that I get the pleasure of working with & am so grateful to do what I love as my career.
What it’s like to work with me:
I know choosing a photographer can be stressful.
As a bride, you want a wedding photographer who can be amazingly organized & comfortable with taking charge to make sure you get all of the images you want, but also laid back & flexible enough to go with the unpredictable flow of a wedding day.
From the first time we email or speak, I am already dreaming about your big day. I am already researching your venue & looking up what time the sun sets so that we can get those beautiful golden hour photos. I am with you through the planning process. Whether you need vendor recommendations, ideas for what to wear at your engagement session or help creating your timeline, I’m there. I’ve also compiled a lot of my knowledge into a convenient digital magazine so that you can have a lot of that information at your fingertips. Organized might be an understatement. ;)
I also love having a personal connection with my couples & putting planning on the side burner once in a while. My love language is Quality Time so coffee, phone or Facetime dates are a must throughout our relationship. I’m obsessed with hearing all about how my couples met, what they like to do together & getting to know them, just as much as I love planning.
Don’t worry seniors, I didn’t forget about you!
As a high school senior, you want a photographer who can portray your personality, make you laugh & create images that are completely unique to you. Long gone are the days of “smile and look at the camera”, at least in my book.
My senior sessions are super laid back and it’s basically just like hanging out with one of your girlfriends but you also get to feel like a super model at the same time. Not bad, right? You will also get a digital magazine with information on everything from what to wear to how to pick locations so that when the day comes, you are completely ready to rock your photoshoot.
I know that with so many things being done online, it’s hard to really get an idea of someone’s personality. I hope this has given you a little more insight into who I am & how I run my business.
