Katy + Jake | Evansville Boho Wedding

Today’s story is about Jake and Katy. I’ve been SO excited to photograph these two since the day they reached out to me! Katy and Jake are two of the most genuine, lovable people you'll ever meet. These two actually connected via Facebook message, although they had a handful of mutual friends. At the time, Jake was actually in another relationship, but a few months later, after that relationship ended, he remembered Katy’s witty message and asked her to dinner! Throughout their relationship, Jake collected videos of their adventures and fun times. He took all of the footage and put together a montage of everything.  While on a two-week trip to Peru, after 8 hours of hiking to Machu Picchu, Jake presented the video to Katy and got down on one knee! I forgot to mention that Jake is a videographer, so this was the perfect proposal that truly reflected his creativity. If you want to see the video, check out their engagement session on the blog (it’s at the very end)!

Katy began her wedding day getting ready with her bridesmaids at The Loft on 6th, in Evansville, Indiana. The entire morning was full of excitement and joy! Katy’s mom couldn’t stop laughing as she helped her daughter get ready. I could clearly see where Katy gets her sweet and spunky personality from! Once Katy was ready, she did a first look with her dad, who told her how amazing she looked and how much he loved her dress. She then did a second first look with her and Jake’s dog, Buddy. He was, of course, very excited to see her! As a dog fanatic, I’m really loving how more and more couples are incorporating their pets as part of their wedding festivities.

Jake and his guys got ready at his and Katy’s home. He gifted his groomsmen and woman each a bolo tie to wear in the ceremony. He had picked out each tie to match each person’s personality, which was a really thoughtful and creative touch.

After everyone was ready, it was finally time for the ceremony which took place outside. If you can’t tell from the photos, it was a perfect Autumn day. As Katy was walking down the aisle, I noticed her say “I’m so happy,” with the biggest smile on her face. They each wrote their own vows and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the entire audience!

The reception was held outside in the same place as the ceremony. For dinner, they had pizza and Jones Soda (a play on Jake’s last name)! Following beautiful speeches from the wedding party, the dance party began! Everyone had such a wonderful time and it was the perfect end to a gorgeous and special day.

I always ask my couples what they love most about the other. It’s such a sweet way to learn about them and I love including their responses in these blogs. When asked the question, Katy said, “I love Jake for a lot of reasons, but most of all, I love that he wants to build a life and a family full of love and adventure. He is understanding, reliable, supportive, goofy, creative, and he loves me for exactly who I am.” Jake said about Katy, “From the moment we met, I was assured by her sweet, sensitive side. She is empathetic and loving. As an artist and teacher, she is imaginative and fun. She has effortlessly kept our relationship flourishing and beautiful. I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to build a future with someone as caring and goofy as her!” (Katy may have helped him with that last part ;))

When asked what they want to remember about this season of their lives 20 years from now, they said, “We want to remember being surrounded by all the people that love us.”
