Why I Insist on Doing an Engagement Session with My Couples
Every single one of my wedding collections include an engagement session. I do make exceptions for some of my couples, particularly those who live far away. But, for the most part, I insist that my couples do an engagement session with me before their wedding day. There are so many reasons for this but here are the biggies in my book:
No. 1 - It helps you get comfortable in front of the camera & with your photographer
By the time your wedding rolls around, I want you to view me as a friend, not a wedding vendor. I know posing in front of the camera doesn’t come naturally to many of us so I want to make sure that relationship is formed before photographing you on one of the most important days of your life.
No. 2 - It’s FUN!
We can do literally anything during your engagement session. Cuddle on the couch? Yep! Walk the dog? Sure! Check out your favorite brewery? Heck yah! Just consider your engagement session a date night (with a professional 3rd wheel ;)) & it will be a good time!
No. 3 - You can do a test run with your makeup
Don’t let your make up trial go to waste. Having it on the same day as your engagement session will not only make you feel gorgeous but you’ll get to see exactly how it shows up on camera.
No. 4 - Enjoy & document this season of life
Of course your wedding day is important but so is this short period before it. Chances are you’re already starting to build a life together & there are certain things you can capture during an engagement session that you might not be able to on a wedding day, like photos with your pets.
No. 5 - Practicality
There will be so many occasions to use these photos! Here are a few examples:
Save the dates
Your wedding website
Guest book
Wedding decor
Thank you cards
Holiday cards
The list goes on and on. Trust me, these photos will be put to good use!
