Leah + Nick | Owensboro, KY Wedding

It’s been a little while since I’ve photographed an Owensboro wedding and I’m so excited to tell you about this one! But first, a little bit about this sweet couple... Leah and Nick met way back in their high school days, but didn’t start dating until college. Nick eventually proposed to Leah at the New Orleans Museum of Art and Sculpture Garden (her favorite place in the world) and hired a photographer to capture the event. Leah, of course, said yes and the rest is history!

If you’re a plant-lover, or even just a fan of outdoor weddings, this one may become your inspiration! The entire day took place at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden in Owensboro, Kentucky, which is an absolutely gorgeous place! Leah and her bridesmaids got ready in the Cottage House which had a beautiful garden overflowing with greenery out back. Nick put on his finishing touches in the greenhouse. His mom helped him with his boutonniere and had the best time! It was a sweet moment to capture. Also, please look at how amazing the succulent details are, I was in love!

Next Leah and Nick did a first look. Any nervous feelings were dissolved at this point and it became a really fun moment full of laughs! Everyone had a smile on their faces the entire time I was taking photos.

The wedding ceremony took place under a willow tree at the botanical garden with all of their close friends and family. Part of their ceremony included planting a tree together with soil from both of their childhood homes. It was such a beautiful way to symbolize the two families coming together and so special. The following reception was filled with emotional speeches, a few tears, lots of hugs, and some epic dance moves! This was one of the most unique weddings I’ve photographed and every piece of it was well thought out and perfect for these two!

When asked what each loves most about the other, Leah said “His laughter. Nick is a quiet one, but he has these one-liners that are real gems. He loves his family. He is always down for a midnight snack and a night drive. He is as adventurous as I am and we have so much fun together. He lets me sing in the car at the top of my lungs to songs we both hate and just laughs. He is truly my best buddy in the whole world.” Nick said “I love how adventurous and outgoing she is. She is always up for trying new things and is always ready to be on the go. She meshes with my family perfectly, has an unconditional love for animals, and is never afraid to speak up for what’s right. She has a smile that can light up a room. I can’t wait to travel and spend the rest of my life with her.”

When asked what they want to remember about this season of their lives 20 years from now, they said “I hope we don’t remember the hard times. I hope we forget how we both struggled through college, first jobs, and a puppy that chewed up all of our shoes. I hope we don’t remember petty fights and frustrations over wall colors and tiles in our fixer-upper. I hope we do remember all of the good times like when we both finally got our degrees and negotiated higher salaries for our dream jobs. I hope we remember the first night the puppy slept peacefully in our bed with our other animals. I hope we remember endless laughter and all of our adventures together. I hope we remember how rewarding it was to use our newly renovated shower and watch true crime documentaries in our painted gray living room.”
